I was invited by Dr. William Oliveira to be a guest lecturer at the Information Technology & Society module of Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The lecture took place on June 9th, online, and was organised as a Q&A panel for students to better understand AI and the job market (local and overseas).
I attended the International Conference on the Applications of Evolutionary Computation (EvoApps, part of EvoStar), where I presented a paper entitled “Optimizing the logistics operations of distribution network operators from a multinational electric utility company“. The paper is the result of a collaboration with Neoenergia, the Brazilian subsidiary of Spanish multinational utility company Iberdrola. The conference took place from April 23th to 25th, 2025 at the Università degli Studi di Trieste, Italy.
I was invited by Google Brasil to be a panelist at the Confraria de Dados Meet-up. The meet-up took place on April 10th, at Google Brasil, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and was entitled “AI Data Ready: Challenges and opportunities for companies preparing for AI”.
I invited Wiktoria Kulik from Accenture UK for a meet-up at the “AI & Governance“ edition of the Unhyped AI Seminars. The meet-up was hosted by the StirAI Lab and the PHAWM research project on April 4th and had Wiktoria and myself as panelists, with Dr. Terrie-Lynn Thompson as moderator.
I was invited to become the Project Lead at the University of Stirling for the “PHAWM: Participatory Harm Auditing Workbenches and Methodologies“ research project, from April 2025 on. The project is finishing its first year and will run until March 2028.
I was invited by Responsible AI UK and attended the concluding event of the “Public voices in AI“ research project. The event took place on March 28th, at the Work Station, Sheffield, UK.

I attended the launch event of the “PHAWM: Participatory Harm Auditing Workbenches and Methodologies“ project, funded by Responsible AI UK, which took place on October 25th, 2024 at the Technology & Innovation Centre (TIC) of the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland.
I was invited by Dr. Nelson Ferreira de Sousa Junior to join a research bid about the use of AI in the analysis of oral, written, and archeological records in Brazil, Portugal and Guinea-Bissau. The call was funded by the CNPq, the Brazilian National Council for Research.
I was invited by INEP to help revise the Brazilian Standard Classification of Education (Cine Brasil 2018). INEP is the major higher education (HE) policy regulator associated with the Brazilian Ministry of Education, and I was invited for my role as one of the coordinators of the Cine Brasil 2018 proposal, based on UNESCO’s International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED-F).
I published a paper with Dr. Guido Noto La Diega entitled “Can there be responsible AI without AI liability? Incentivizing generative AI safety through ex-post tort liability under the EU AI liability directive“. The paper will appear on the International Journal of Law and Information Technology, published by the Oxford University Press.
Our project “PHAWM: Participatory Harm Auditing Workbenches and Methodologies“ was awarded £3.5mi by Responsible AI UK to propose approaches that enable society to take part in AI auditing over the next four years, starting May 2024. Our consortium comprises 25 investigators from 7 UK universities, namely Glasgow, Strathclyde, Stirling, Edinburgh, Sheffield, York, and King’s College London, as well as 23 external partners.
